Obituary

Samuel Davis, Jr., 80, passed away surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, March 5, 2020. Sammy was born to Samuel and Minnie Davis on May 28, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio.

Samuel went to Scott High School and entered the US Airforce at age 17. He became an Aircraft Mechanic Seat Ejection Specialist, working on B52 Bombers in Roswell, New Mexico. He also studied at the University of Toledo. In 1961, at the age of 22, Sammy married his wife Joetta and soon after gained employment at Powertrain. After completing coursework at General Motors Institute, he was promoted to the position of Supervisor and eventually General Foreman. He retired from his position at GM after serving 30 years.

As a child, Sammy remembered living a rustic lifestyle with his 7 siblings on Pinewood and Oakwood. His responsibilities consisted of bringing in wood and buckets of coal from the basement or from the wood pile in the backyard. At the age of 12, Sammy got his first job at a grocery store. There he would deliver groceries, cut meat and set out produce. As a teenager he was very athletic and always adventurous.

During his adult life, he loved to travel around the country with his family, including nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters and extended relatives. He always has nice cars. The thrill seekers would pile in and the adventures would be epic. California,Florida, Arizona, Chicago, Washington D.C., Wisconsin. Colorado, The Grand Canyon and many other memorable destinations. His spontaneity had no limits.

Sammy and his wife enjoyed driving around Toledo. They saw every inch of the city. They shared special places, Maumee Bay State Park, International Park, and Walbridge Park were their favorites. The couple enjoyed romantic lunches, private moments, and personal experiences. Sometimes they would just hold hands and gaze across the water.

Sammy was preceded in death by both parents, Samuel and Minnie Davis, his beloved wife Reverend Joetta Davis, hissiters June and Ivie, and his brother Samueal Tyrone (Daddio).

He leaves to cherish his memory three children, Christopher, Gregory, and Leslie (Kory); sisters, Louise and Dianne; brothers Condor and Tyrone (Diane); Nine grandchildren, Samuel-Christopher, Kellen, Kendall, Korie, Sam, LaShunda, Abreyah, Gregory-Christian, Jorie; and five great-grandchildren, Samuel, Anthony, Jordan, Aubrey, and Ivory.
