Obituary

Geraldine (Forrest) Jones, of Toledo, passed away on May 1, 2020 at the Franciscan Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio. Gerri was born on January 4, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio.

She was the oldest child of 5 children born to Marbley and Pearline (Meredith) Forrest. Gerri graduated from Whitney Vocational High School, and at an early age married Ernest Jones Sr. To this union three children were born (Diane, Douglas and Ernest, Jr). Gerri was preceded in death by her mother and father; siblings, Doris Forrest, Donald Forrest, and Robert “Joe” Forrest; two of her children, Diane Lorraine Ransey, and Douglas Jones, Sr.; grandson, Douglas Jones, Jr, and long-time beau Donald Eugene Hendricks.

She leaves to cherish her memory, brother, Addison Marbley Forrest of Hayward, California, loving son and caretaker for many years, Ernest Jones, Jr. (Kenetta Kay); daughter-in-Law, Hilda Jones (Hayward, California); grandchildren, Elise Jones-Brooks (Toledo) Damon Ransey (Las Vegas), Dorian (Lori) Ransey (Toledo), and Emilia Jones-Lewis (Marlon) of Hayward, California; great grandchildren, Dominique Ashon Jones, Kenneth Ray Brown, Jr., Damonte Ransey, Danielle Ransey, Ajani Ransey; great-great grandchildren, McKenzie Rae Brown, and Crew Emery Jones; dearest friends, Bonnie Hopkins, and Barbara McFarland, and a host of loving family members and friends.

She was a long time member of Mt. Zion Church, which she attended regularly until her health began to fail. Gerri worked many years at Champion Spark Plug and retired when Champion left Toledo. She was an avid reader and would often offer information to family and friends on how to live a healthy life, with proper eating habits and taking vitamins. She loved to entertain her family and friends by hosting parties and dinners especially during the holidays. She also loved having her grandchildren and great grandchildren around her. She would often take care of them, helping with homework, or teaching them life lessons like how to set-up a dinner table, or the proper way to speak or carry themselves in public. Gerri loved jazz, especially Sara Vaughn, which in her last days she was still able to sing along with Sara, remembering all the words to her songs. She also loved designer clothing, and was often seen in Jacobson’s, The Lion Store and Dillard’s where the sales people knew her by name. In fact, people often commented on how exquisitely she dressed to go to work.

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, no funeral services will be held. A memorial service may be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Family House in Toledo, Ohio, or the American Cancer Society, or the Franciscan Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio.
