Obituary

Mrs. Awana Westbrook, age 101, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2020. She was born on January 22, 1919 as one of 10 children to the late Nora Dove and Lee Burgess in Wichita, Kansas.

Awana was a graduate of Libbey High School and a student at the University of Toledo. Awana also held the distinction of being one of the first African American troop leaders for the Girl Scouts of America in Toledo, OH. Awana was an avid reader and historian who thoroughly enjoyed history and the seven lively arts especially Opera and Jazz. Awana was a life-long member of St. Martin de Pores Catholic Church. She was devoted wife and homemaker, mother, and grandmother.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving daughter Patricia Ann Blanchard, six grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, nine brothers and sisters, her loving husband Lloyd Dean Westbrook Sr, and five sons: Lloyd Jr, Dennis Shelby, Shelby Vernon, Terrance Livingston and Eric Lee Westbrook.

Special thanks to her nurse Jennifer and the nurses of EBEID Hospice. And a very special thanks to her grandson Edward.

Due to COVID 19, there weill be a Celebration of Life for Mrs. Westbrook and there will be no repass.
