Obituary for Adlean Howard

Adlean  Howard
Adlean Howard, 78, of ­Toledo, Ohio, passed away October 22, 2016. She was born on May 14, 1938, in Drew, Mississippi to Andrew and Maude Scott in a family of 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Ms. Howard migrated to Toledo in 1953. She accepted Christ early in her life and chose Thomas Temple Church of God in Christ as her church home here in Toledo where she served as a faithful member from the 1950’s through 2003. During her tenure at Thomas Temple under the leadership and guidance of the late Archbishop C.E. Thomas and the late Bishop Frank Richards, she served on the Nurses’s Guild, the Mothers’ Board, and the Kitchen Committee where she was renown as the “Queen of Preparing Fried Chicken”! After the passing of Bishop Richards, she  transitioned serving under Pastor Lemar Evans, of Richard’s Temple Church and remained a faithful member. In June 1953, she married Winfred Howard with whom she conceived and nurtured a family of six sons and one beloved daughter. She enjoyed long relaxing walks and skating for fun. As a homemaker, she also enjoyed preparing and serving meals to family, friends and anyone in need of a soul food holiday meal for each and every calendar holiday of the year! Complete with “icebox pie”!!

Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her mother, Maude Whittaker Scott; father, Andrew Scott; sisters, Etherine Cooley, Susie Hampton, Myrtis Smith, Georgia Mae Brownlee, Lenora Davis and brother, Alex Scott; as well as her youngest son, Galon Howard. She leaves to cherish her memory her ex-husband, Winfred Howard; daughter, Rene Mays; her beloved sons, Gregory (Brenda Palmer) Howard, Nathaniel Howard, Ernest Howard, Mark Howard and Quincy (Anita) Howard. She is also survived by her sisters, Syless Griswold and Claude Scott of Chicago. She has 20 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews family and friends.

First Visitation will be at The House of Day Funeral Service, 2550 Nebraska, Toledo, Ohio, on Thursday, November 3, 2016, from 7-9 p.m. Second Visitation will be held at Tabernacle of Faith Worship Center, 702 Central Avenue at Scottwood, Toledo, Ohio, on Friday, November 4, 2016, from 10-11 a.m. The “Homegoing” Celebration will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Forest Cemetery. Flowers and donations for those wishing to make expressions of sympathy in Adlean’s memory are asked to be sent to The House of Day Funeral Service, 2550 Nebraska Avenue, Toledo, Ohio.
