Obituary for Tina Renee Bowen

Tina Renée (Hawkins) Bowen, aged 61, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2020 at home. She was born on July 10, 1959 to Bettye and Daniel Hawkins in Toledo, Ohio. She was the eldest of 7 siblings. Nay, as she was affectionately known to family and friends, was baptized into the Christian faith at Calvary Baptist Church, while attending Southern Missionary Baptist Church. Nay graduated from Jessup Scott High School Class of 1977. She often helped by minding her younger siblings when her mother was at work. This seemed to be the start of a lifelong nurturing spirit, which she shared with all she encountered.

Nay's first love was her son, Daniel Walker (Charlie Brown). We all have heard the stories of Charlie Brown and how he was born before his time. Nay was fiercely protective of him. While raising him, she was certified as a nursing assistant. It was in her nature to take care of others.

Nay was a proud member of The Ohio Players Motor Cycle Club, and she was among the first women to be a made a member. She and her husband Larry were married in 1990 in Toledo, Ohio. Together for more than 30 years, they nurtured their blended family. She kept house and took care of her family during those early years. After the children had grown up, she attended Owens Community College. She also worked for the Zepf Center in their group homes, a profession that she loved.

Nay loved music and dancing and was a sharp dresser. Besides being well dressed, Nay was a master shopper. She could find a bargain or a sale where none seemed to exist. She was a talented cook, and thrived in the kitchen. She loved compliments about her cooking. No one could replicate her recipes. She is especially renowned for her pound cake, cheesecake, pies and candied yams. Nay also was the center of the family and on just about every holiday, she brought friends and family together with one of her fantastic meals. In addition to good food, there were laughs and jokes, and lots of love. Nay was a member of Narcotics Anonymous and had a host of friends in that fellowship. She had 17 years in recovery.

Nay loved her family. She cherished her husband, Larry, loved her children and especially her grandchildren. She would go to the ends of the earth for her grandkids. She had a special bond with each of them. If there was weekend without the grandkids, it was rare.

Nay was preceded in death by her father Daniel G. Hawkins, and two of her brothers: Daniel A. Hawkins (Gene) and Terry L. Hawkins. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Larry Bowen, her mother Bettye J. Hawkins, her siblings Pandora (Jerry) Hawkins, John Hawkins, Jason (Jun Xu) Hawkins, and Patricia Hawkins, her children Daniel "Charlie Brown" Walker, Shavonda, Davon , Nicole, Larail Greenlee and Debbrail (Donovan) Jackson, her grandchildren Diamond, Devin, and Davon "Day Day" Walker, Larail Greenlee Jr. the Second and third, Kyreyonna Griffin and Stacey Hopson, and Jason Singer jr, Daeonna, Donovan Jr. and Londyn Jackson, nieces and nephews, and a host of family and friends
