Obituary for Sylvia V Wamley

Mrs. Sylvia Veronica (Skeete) Wamley departed this life for her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
She was the youngest child and only girl born to Herbert and Anna Watkins Skeete on June 14, 1925 in Miami, Florida.

Sylvia completed high school in Nassau, Bahamas. She spent many years in Nassau and took pride in caring for her mother. She moved to New York City as a young adult working in the garment industry. She later returned to Miami, Florida where she met and married her late husband, Mr. George Henry Wamley.
In 1974 George and Sylvia relocated to Lima, Ohio and later to Toledo, Ohio.

Sylvia was a kind, compassionate and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She never met a stranger. Sylvia was a masterful baker. It brought her great joy to bake homemade cakes for her grandchildren’s birthdays and for special occasions. She was famous for her 7-Up cakes and German chocolate cakes. She also enjoyed her crossword puzzle books, reading her Daily Bread, watching Family Feud and listening to the Gaither Family gospel singers on her radio. God granted her the privilege to be a mother and mentor to many children and young people who entered her life and home. She was blessed to live ninety-five long years and impacted the lives of those who knew her. Some called her Granny, some called her Gramma, some called her Mama, some called her Ms. Sylvia, others called her Mom- but she was loved by all.
She was a long-time member of St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church under the leadership of Rev. George Maize III and Rev. Claude Christopher. She later joined Cornerstone Church in Maumee Ohio. There she served well into her eighties as a volunteer in the Hospitality Ministry and as a Greeter.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. George Henry Wamley, her parents- Herbert and Anna Skeete, both brothers- Alfred and Gladstone Skeete and great-grandson, Evan Joshua McCain.

She leaves to cherish many memories: Son, George Wamley (Mary) Hallandale, Florida. Daughters, Pastor Antoinette (Pastor David) Banks, Toledo, OH, Rev. Andrea A. (Presiding Elder Rev.
