Obituary for Sylvester Denmark Horton Sr.

Mr. Sylvester Denmark Horton Sr was called by our Lord and Savior at the age of 61, on October 21, 2020. Sylvester Denmark Horton was born February 14, 1959 in Birmingham, Alabama from the blessed union of Mr. Ernest Horton Sr. & Mrs. Elizabeth Barnes-Horton, in which he was the 9th out of 11 children created from that union. Sylvester was preceded in death by his brother Andrew Horton (1984), his mother Elizabeth Barnes-Horton (1988), his father Ernest Horton Sr. (1992) and his sister Louise Smith (2019).

Sylvester graduated from Wenonah High School in Birmingham, Alabama on May 27, 1979, in which right after he graduated, he entered the United States Army with an enlistment date of November 27, 1979. Throughout his United States Army service career, Sylvester continually climbed rank and receive honor based recognitions for the long outstanding services that he provided his country all the way until his Federally Recognized Honorable Discharge as a Sergeant of the 612th Engineer Battalion (Corps) on July 1, 2001. Sylvester moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1988, in continuance of his services in the United States Army and in pursuance of opportunity. In his show of true Patriotism, Sylvester became an employee of the United States Post Office on February 25, 1989, in which he retired with 28 years of service in 2017.

Sylvester was a man of Faith and a longstanding member of the Indiana Missionary Baptist Church. Sylvester was also a man that placed great emphasis on the concept of family. He loved being with his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He loved family gatherings, Bar-B-Que’s, and music and all three was his definition of a good time. Sylvester was a man full of life with a presence that demanded the attention of everybody around him, while also making everyone feel included. Sylvester was loved and will forever be missed.

Mr. Sylvester Denmark Horton is survived by his two sons Sylvester D Horton Jr. of Buford, Georgia and Christopher R Horton of Toledo, Ohio; Long- Life Partner, Marilyn Lee of Toledo, Ohio; (Step) Grandchildren, Josiana Bey, Joshua Bey II, Patience Bey, Aliana Bey, Noah Bey, Naomi Bey and Aliyah Bey all of Toledo, Ohio; Brothers, Theodis Horton of Toledo, Ohio, Ernest Horton Jr. of Toledo, Ohio, Willie James Horton of Toledo, Ohio , Curtis Horton (Sandra) of Birmingham, Alabama and Kenneth Horton of Birmingham, Alabama; Sisters, Earnestine Hearns of Birmingham, Alabama, Patricia Scott (Hillary) of Toledo, Ohio and Annette Peoples (Jeremiah) of Birmingham, Alabama; Aunts, Emma Lee Provence of Tuscaloosa and Sally Lee Bryant of Birmingham, Alabama, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other living relatives and dear friends.
