Obituary for Su Simmons

Su Ok Simmons, 70, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly, of natural causes, on July 30, 2020 at her home. She was born to parents, the late Pyon Yong Sun and Om Sun-Boon in Pusan, South Korea. While in South Korea, Su studied cosmetology and truly enjoyed the art of bringing out one’s beauty.

She met and married the love of her life, Fred Lee Simmons, Sr. in Seoul, South Korea. They came to the United States and initially settled in Fort Hood, Texas. Eventually, they moved to Toledo, Ohio, which Su had called home the remainder of her living years and also where she raised her family. While Su had family still in South Korea, she always loved that her new family, with Fred, was one of the best gifts she ever received.

Su loved being a homemaker and all that it entailed. As a consummate wife, mother and homemaker, Su was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. She loved to watch her favorite soap operas, the Home Shopping Network, the food and cooking channels. She also loved sports and enjoyed watching basketball, football, gymnastics, figure skating, and wrestling. Su also had an unwavering faith in God which she passionately and proudly shared with her family.

Su was preceded in death by her parents, her 3 brothers and 1 sister, loving son, Pyon Yong Su Simmons, son-in-law, Brian, mother-in-law, Evie, father-in-law, James, brother in-law, Cleveland and sister-in-law Rosie. Su is survived by her husband, Fred, six children, Brenda (Gerard), Mee (Cee), Fred, Jr., (Michelle), Yong (Michael), Om (Tim), Pyon Yong Sun (Chelsey), nine grandchildren, and a number of other loving relatives and close friends.

The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, and all the medical staff that took care of Su throughout the years. Viewing ceremony will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 9:00 am at the House of Day in Toledo, Ohio. A funeral service celebrating her life will follow at 10:00 am. The precession immediately following services to Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum where her body will be laid to rest.
