Obituary for Sammie Lee Jackson

Sammie Lee Jackson, affectionately known as Sam, 74, was born October 18, 1948 in Rosedale, Mississippi to the late Stanfield and Theresa Jackson. He transitioned from this life on April 4, 2023 at UTMC Hospital surrounded by family.

He was a 1968 graduate of Edward Drummond Libbey High School. He then went to work for the Ford Motor Company in Monroe, Michigan, where he retired with 37 years. Shortly after retirement he went to work for the Wayman-Palmer YMCA as a bus driver. He was well known for wearing classy suits and driving nice cars. If you seen him out of town, he was definitely in a suit and his infectious smile would light up any room. He became a member of the YMCA because he believed in working out. Working out and walking the park trails in the summer was a must for him. He loved being with family. If no one else was at a family function, Sammie was. He was loved by everyone he came in contact with.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Stanfield and Theresa Jackson, brothers; Andrew L. Jackson, Sr. and Charles R Jackson, Sr., grandsons; Myron Frazier and Tyreece Justice.

He leaves to cherish his memory, sons; Dawan L. Jackson, Sr. and Lovell T. Diggs, daughters; Evelyn L. Justice, Candice C. Wormley and Kimberly Gross, sisters; Sherry A. Cox and Gayle D. Jackson, 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nices, nephews, cousins and friends.
