Obituary for Roy C. Sullivan

We rejoice in the celebration of life of Roy C. Sullivan, born the fourth of five children of Robert and Marie Sullivan on July 15, 1951 in Toledo, Ohio. Surrounded by his family, he quietly slipped away from earth to glory on the morning December 8, 2020.

He was educated in the Toledo Public School System, graduating from Jesup W. Scott High School in 1969. Roy gave his life to Christ at an early age. He joined and was baptized at New Light Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Rucker.

Roy married his wife Patricia on July 22, 1972. He was a faithful and loving husband. To this union God blessed them with three (3) sons. Roy lived as an example of a father to many other young men who came to know him as “Dad”.

In 2011, he joined the New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church in Mansfield, Ohio and worked dedicatedly side by side with his wife, Patricia, in her pastorage of the church. He was a dedicated member, serving on the Usher Board and helping in numerous other areas of the church.

Employed by Consumer Energy for 46 years, Roy worked as an electrician, and held the position of steward and later president of his local union. With an interest in safety, he served in the latter part of his career as a member of the Michigan Utility Workers’ Safety Council. Until his retirement Roy worked as regional safety representative in a collaboration between Consumer Energy and the Michigan Utility Workers Union.

He loved fun, laughter, sports, traveling and had a heart of overflowing love to help others. He was always willing to help anyone in need.

Roy leaves to cherish his memories and to celebrate his life his wife of 48 years, Patricia; sons: Tarik, Jarret (Fashionette), and Jeremy; (just like daughters he never had) – Kimberly Davis and Amanda Wise, of Toledo, Ohio, and Chareka August, of New Orleans, Louisiana. Eight (8) grandchildren: Chailyn, Jayla, Anaya, Zykerreah, Zanyeah, Zariya, Ava, and Jayceon. Brothers in spirit: Christopher Crittenden and Tommy (Mary) Johnson. A host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends, and the New Beginning Church family.
