Obituary for Rodney G Barnett

Rodney Gilbert Barnett, 76, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021. He was born on October 29, 1944 in Toledo Ohio to Leroy and Lucille (Wells) Barnett Sr. Rodney joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17; he served as a Tank Runner. He won many trophies for his precision shooting which was a skill he was very proud of. Rodney was honorably discharged from the Army and was ranked as an E4 Specialist. He worked for The Ford Motor Company (Monroe Michigan plant) and retired after 37 years of service.

Rodney married Deborah Thornhill in 1977, and to this union, had (2) daughters: Rhonda and stepdaughter Shellie.

Rodney enjoyed his family immensely; whether going to a family reunion anywhere in the country, a cook out or playing a game of Bid wiz. He was an avid reader and a CB operator known as “Big Rodd (the number of stories that could be told from that are comical and plentiful). He enjoyed fishing and listening to Motown sounds, and he loved to play poker (especially with his retiree buddies). He was very witty and could tell a good joke at the drop of a dime. He was extremely fun to be around.

His loving children, Rhonda Barnett and Shellie Holloway, survive Rodney.
He leaves to cherish his memory 5 grandchildren: Tim, Tyler, Austin, Stephanie and Deborah, 4 great- grand children, a special niece Dawn Watson, and a supportive sister Ina Jones. Other surviving siblings are, Leroy Barnett, Denise (Delroy) Edwards, Candice (Rick) Johnson and many special friends and loving family.

Rodney is preceded in death by parents; Leroy Barnett Sr., Lucille Catron and siblings; Brenda Stokes, Pamela Sleet and Dennis Jones, nieces; Robin Hobson, Camille and Crystal Barnett.
