Obituary for Myles Elliott Wright

In loving memory of Myles Elliott Wright, age 26, who passed suddenly on May 21, 2020, in Toledo, OH.
Myles was born June 27, 1993 in Fayetteville, NC, at Fort Bragg Veterans Hospital to Sergeant Elliott & Corporal Fionne Wright whom both served in the Gulf War (Desert Shield/Desert Storm). Myles was the only child of this union. The family travelled from North Carolina to St. Louis, MO before they finally settled in Fionne’s home town of Toledo. He was about 2 years old when they arrived in Toledo.

Myles attended Dorr Street Elementary, Arlington Elementary and Winterfield Venture Academy. He graduated from Anthony Wayne High School in Whitehouse, OH, in 2012 and attended Owens Community Technical College.

Myles was deeply loved by family and friends. Myles was an avid music lover. He enjoyed playing video games and played soccer and football in his younger years. He had a close relationship with his Uncle Eric Reynolds, who was only 9 months older than him. Myles could never bring himself to call him “Uncle Eric,” but clearly, if anyone would ask their relationship he would say, “that’s my uncle.” Myles made friends very easily. When attending Anthony Wayne High School he had a strong and continuing friendship, with the young men who are his pallbearers today. They maintained a close relationship even after they all graduated. Some of them became his roommates in adulthood. For many of his friends his passing is like losing a “brother.”

Myles’ entire Toledo family grew up under the religious guidance of Bishop Duane C. Tisdale, Pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor has presided over marriages and over funerals for most all of Myles’ Toledo family, so his loss runs deep within his church family. Myles’ Great Grandmother, Mary Brooks is still one of the honored Mothers of the church.

Myles is preceded in death by Father, Elliott P. Wright (2006), his paternal grandparents Louise Hinds/Wright and Ben Wright; paternal grandfather, Floyd James McMurray; and a paternal uncle, Shannon Wright. He is survived by his mother Fionne J. Wright, Toledo; Grandmother Beverly (Dale) Barnhill, Indianapolis, IN; great grandmother Mary (Henry) Brooks, Toledo, OH; Aunt LaDonna (Leon) Price, Fayetteville, NC; Aunt Penny Lyles, St. Louis, MO; Aunt Letty (Harold) Hardin, Fayetteville, NC; Special Auntie Donnette (Roy) Thompson-Baldwin, Phoenix, AZ; Uncle Eric E. Reynolds, Toledo, OH; Siblings: sister, Dominique Wright, Phoenix, AZ; brother, Ryan (Jen) Wright, Ypsilanti, MI; and stepbrother, Keith (Yolanda) Ragland, Ypsilanti, MI . His great aunts, great uncles, and a host of other cousins (some of whom grew up with him), relatives, and friends will hold tightly to his memory. Many of Myles nieces, nephews, and cousins are too young and will know him only through his photographs and the stories the family will tell.
