Mildred Overton was born September 30, 1930 to Camilla Cox in Dyersburg, Tennessee. She was raised by her Uncle Billy and Aunt Ruthie Goings.
She married Martin Overton Sr. in 1948 in Dyersburg where Morris and Martin Jr. were born, later relocating to Toledo, Ohio, where Sandra, Annie, Paulette and Joe were born.
Mildred loved life and Worked for JC Penney for a period of time. She also enjoyed going to church. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she gladly served as a nurse for 40 years under the leadership of Rev. Floyd Smith Jr. She later joined Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership Rev. Jimmy L. Jordan Jr., until her death.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Martin Overton Sr.; two daughters, Sandra Bates, Paulette Overton; two brothers, LJ Young, Robert Young; and loving cousin, Eddie Goings.
She leaves to cherish her memories, Morris (Vanessa), of Dyersburg, TN, Martin Jr. (Diane), of Whitier, CA, Joe Timothy (Aretha), of Toledo, OH, Annie Gillard; and sister-in-law, Annie Pearl McCloud; 17 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
