Obituary for Mildred J. McKinnis

Mildred J. McKinnis passed away peacefully into the welcoming arms of her Lord and Savior at the age of 93, on March 2, 2020. She was born May 29, 1926 to the union of the late Andrew and Ora Williamson in Hawkinsville, Georgia. Mildred received a certificate of excellence from a prominent culinary school. She was a fantastic cook who was well known for her homemade rolls and deserts. She worked for various restaurants which included Secor Grill where she worked for over 25 yrs. After retiring Mildred continued to do catering for private events. She even became a caretaker for a special lady at the young age of 80 yrs. old.

Mildred was an avid bowler and skater for over 40 yrs. She continued to bowl up until 3 months ago when her health would no longer allow her to participate. Mildred enjoyed going to Tuesday movie night with her young girlfriends. She loved to travel and was blessed to visit many beautiful destinations which afforded her an opportunity to share many stories about her adventures with her many friends.

Mildred was a faithful pillar of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church for over 60 yrs. She truly loved her church and church family. She was active in numerous ministries which included: the adult choir, usher board, missionary society, kitchen ministry coordinator and "the best" praise dancer in the Golden Girls Group. Mildred truly loved all her family and friends with an unconditional love that cannot be be measured. She especially loved spending time with her toddler great grandchildren which kept her young and vibrant.

Mildred leaves a legacy of amazing friends young and old who loved her dearly. She had so much love for everyone she met. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Willie James McKinnis; sons, Milton Baker Sr., Alphonso Baker and Thomas McKinnis; granddaughter, Tanisha Harris; great grandchildren, Andrew BakerSr., Milton "Benji" Baker III; one sister and 10 brothers.

Mildred is lovingly survived by dedicated grandchildren, Aaliyah Harris (who she raised), Milton Baker Jr. and Tammy Presnall-Austin; special goddaughter, Bobbie Harris; daughter-in-laws, Emma and Mary Baker; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; special niece, Althea Williamson-Jones; numerous nieces; nephews and many friends. Special thank you to her neighbor Cheryl Sharp and sister-in-law, Pat Williamson.
