Obituary for Mildred Gibson (Marshall)

Born in Birmingham, Alabama to the union of Rasberry and Mattie Marshall, December 28th, 1928 as the seventh child of nine. Educated in Birmingham where she attended East Thomas, Carrie A. Tuggle Elementary School, and A. H. Parker High School where she received her diploma. She met and married Albert Charles Owens to this union were born five children. She attended the 5th Street Church of God in Birmingham, Alabama, under Pastor Henry Williams Sr. where she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. The family then moved to Toledo, Ohio where she joined the First Church of God, under Bishop Dr. Robert A. Culp.

Mildred enjoyed singing in the choir, fellowshipping with the saints, teaching Sunday School, and encouraging people. She was a teacher for Toledo Public School for many years and finally retired from Reynolds Elementary School. She continued her education at Toledo University and obtained her Master’s Degree in Education.

She is survived by one sibling, Rev. Dr. James I. (Judy) Marshall and one daughter, Merilyn P. (late Melvin Sr.) Womack. The legacy she left behind includes 7 grand, 9 greats, nieces and nephews, good friends, and church family.

Homegoing Services have been entrusted to the House of Day Funeral Home located at 2550 Nebraska Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43607. August 11, 2020 the wake will be at 12 noon and open to all.
