Obituary

Marjorie Simmons-Davenport, beloved sister, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 23, 2020, at Toledo Hospital. She was the eighth child born to the union of Sim Simmons and Elsie Richardson Simmons. Marjorie attended Toledo Public Schools and graduated from Scott High School. She attended The University of Toledo for two years. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Lee, Clarence, and George Simmons; sisters Della Harrison, Roberta Simmons, and Juanita Pope.

During Marjorie's formative years she attended Warren A.M.E. Church and St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church. In 1976, Marjorie dedicated her life to Christ by joining Greater St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church. She loved her church family. She was an active, dedicated member of Greater St. Mary serving as Chairman of the Trustee Board, treasurer and assistant to First Lady Shirley Lyons with the Women's Ministry, assisted with the orientation of New Members, treasurer of "Breakfast with the Pastor", member of the Book Club, served as an usher, faithful Sunday School member, and diligently served on the Pastor's Aid Committee. Marjorie was a serious student of the bible. She joined a Bible Study class at Warren A.M.E. Church in a four year study of Scripture as the path to discipleship.

Marjorie worked in the advertisement department of Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation, LaSalle Department Store, and Monroe Academy of Arts. She retired from The Lucas County Board of Election in 2006. While working at the Board of Election she became acquainted with many politicians and became actively involved in local politics; subsequently she joined The Democratic Party Organization. She loved reading, traveling, genealogy research, organizing and planning family reunions (she took pride in being the family historian), and celebrating her favorite holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas, with family and friends.

Marjorie was passionate about helping others and was observant in knowing who was in need. When our mother was in need of twenty-four hour care, she moved in with her and became her primary caregiver for nearly seven years. She shared her blessings with others and touched everyone with who she came in contact.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted sister, Theo Simmons-Hampton; nephews, Lee, Michael, and Keith Simmons, Ronald (Candace) Harrison, Mark (Linda) Harrison, James Harrison, Kip (Antoinette) Simmons; nieces, Karen Simmons Jones, Shirley Larkett, Wendy Carol, Robin and Tamra Simmons; special cousin, Ollie (Sammie) Jones; special brother, Winston (Challice) Cooperwood; sisters-in-Iaw, Mary Elizabeth and Jacqueline
Patricia Simmons: and a host of great-nephews and nieces, great-great nephews and
nieces, relatives and friends.

To the Davenport family and to GSM Baptist Church family, I extend my condolences. Marjorie and I enjoyed joking around before church service would start. She was faithful to the Sunday School and her duties as a Church trustee. See you on the other side sister!
