Obituary for Lillian Spears

April 21, 1933 was the beginning of a remarkable journey for a special person, Lillian Spears also known as Mother Spears, Lil, Mama, and affectionately known as “Me-Myier”. She was the eldest of 10 children born to the union of the late Mr. and Mrs. George and Corine Shuler in Utica, Mississippi; and departed her earthly life on July 11, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, four brothers, and a son Kelvin.

Mother Spears moved to Toledo Ohio in 1953. She was employed by The Kroger Co. for over thirty years until she retired. But her work was not done. After retirement, Mother Spears worked for Rogers High School for a short time where she enjoyed being around the young people in the Cafeteria.

Mother Spears was a faithful servant at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church and she was an avid watcher of World Changers Church International after moving to the Atlanta area. She loves God and teaching His Word. She so loved being a part of the Missionary Society and Generation Now program where she was able to share the Word of God and help others. Her life was a life of service; and her teaching, speaking, smiles, and laughter will be missed by many.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three children, Melvin (Dora) of Toledo OH, Glenda of Toledo OH, and Gale of Suwanee GA; sister Carrie Lyons of Serrento FL; brother James (Gladys) of Sylvania OH; four grandchildren: Audrei Jeffries of Sandusky OH, Andre (Johnetta) Avery and Melvin Spears Jr. of Toledo OH, and Shareyna Spears of Frisco TX; three great grandchildren: Peyton, Kelvin and Thailee, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends, and church family.
