Lillian A. Smith, 82, was born on February 5, 1938 to Ender Lee and John William Shaw in Gibson, Mississippi. She peacefully passed away on March 11, 2020 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio surrounded by family. She was the eighth child of ten children. Lillian and her siblings were raised in the church. As a young girl Lillian enjoyed attending school, writing, singing and helping her mother prepare the family meals. She was an excellent cook. She lived in Egypt, Mississippi on a farm for a good part of her childhood. It was there she learned how to plant and garden. Some time during the 1950's the family relocated to Mount Plymouth, Michigan. Lillian attended North Eastern High School. She later attended Scott High School night classes where she obtained her High School Diploma.

Lillian married and moved to Toledo, Ohio in the late year of 1955. She was married to George Smith II for nineteen years. together they had eight children; six girls and two boys. Lillian was such a courageous and strong woman. She decided to further her education and went to dental school obtaining her Dental Assistant Certificate. She worked for Mercy for a few years. Shortly after that, she started working for the Toledo Board of Education where she became the first African American woman to be in charge of the Maintenance department. She would often refer to herself as “The Head Broom Pusher '' with the changes in times she proudly accepted the opportunity to become a Certified Electric Furnace Operator for TPS. She was the only qualified person to work in the newly built schools Old Westend and Glendale Feilbach. Lillian retired in 1994 but her work didn’t stop there.

Lillian remained a faithful servant of God throughout her life. She loved to say ‘`Amen” she became an Evangelist for The Church of God in Christ and a Certified Clergyman for the State of Ohio. She went on to write and record her very own gospel music. It brought her great joy being in the studio. The first recorded song she wrote was The Inspiration “What did you get from Jesus” a song she would often sing at home with family and in church. Lillian’s greatest accomplishment was when she wrote a poem called “Pockets” it received great recognition and many, many awards. She later turned it into a song. In her 70’s she volunteered at Reynolds Elementary School and wrote and co-produce their alma mater school song. She had the most infectious smile. Lillian’s favorite pastime was baking, piecing together puzzles, finding a good garage sale and spending time with her grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She gave every single one of them nicknames. She loved traveling with her friends. She was very proud of her PCT church family. She was such a loving, caring and passionate and helpful person.

Lillian was preceded in death by Daughters; Pattie L. Smith, Joy Owens, Debra O’henry, Cindy Smith and Melody Gibson. Grandchildren Johnathan Spencer, Sammanuel Brown, Tiffany Smith and Christie Lynn. Both parents and grandparents; Seven siblings.
