Obituary

Leona Denton, 82, went home to be with the Lord on August 1, 2020 in her home. She passed peacefully in her bed. She was born November 6, 1937 in Nashville, Tennessee to the union of Jesse and Roy Denton. She was affectionately known as "Lee".

At six years old, Leona and Jesse moved to Woodville, Ohio along with her stepfather, Lucius Blocker. In Woodville, she met the Pirtle's and her lifelong friend, Sadie Pirtle. Leona graduated from Woodmore High School in Woodville.

In 1954, Leona married Neuman Jones and to this union two sets of twins were born; Brenda Fears and Linda Mack, and Carolyn Jones and Marilyn Jones.

Leona was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church for over twenty years. She loved serving. Leona was a member of the Usher Board and she looked forward to sitting down front with the mothers on Sundays and wearing a big hat, but as a leader of the Care Ministry. Leona helped her team reach out to the sick and encourage those who needed it. Until her death, she sent cards and letters. Leona ministered by phone to people inside and outside the church.

Leona loved serving, cooking, golf, reading, and writing. She belonged to several clubs. She was a treasurer for the AFL-CIO AFSCME Local 7 Union. She belonged to a host of other clubs and affiliations.

Leona was preceded in death by her mother, Jesse; her stepfather, Lucius Blocker; brother, James Denton, and two grandchildren, DeAndre and Mariah Mack. Left to cherish her memories, her daughters, Brenda Fears, Linda Mack, Carolyn Jones, and Marilyn Jones; grandchildren, Tonya (Armone) Black, Tobie (Tiwana) Mack, Prince Kusi, Ebony Jones, and Jeremy (Calandra) Jones; great-grandchildren, Christopher Mack, Tobias Mack, Mya Mack, Isiah Mack, Aileana Jones, Trinity Jones, and Nasir Clinksdale. She will be mourned in death by a host of family and friends.
