Obituary for Lee Atkins

Lee Atkins started his life’s journey on June 6, 1927 in Sylvester, Georgia to parents Tempie Caesar and George Atkins. He transitioned peacefully at his home in Toledo on February 6, 2021 at age 93. He was the last living sibling of eight children.
 
Lee came to Toledo on Mother’s Day, 1951.  Heunited in Holy Matrimony to Ora Lee Grayson on September 26, 1953. To this union four children were born; Lisa, Marlon, Sonia and Keithe. He was married for 47 years and was a steadfast caregiver to his wife during her illness. Lee was employed at Interlake Iron (later Kopper’s for 36 years. After retirement Lee and his brother Ira D. started a small lawn care/hauling business keeping them happy and busy for a few years.  
 
Lee loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church for over 45 years. He will be remembered for his faithful service on the Senior Usher Board. He will be missed for his cooking skills, whether BBQing for church picnics or dinners, arriving early on Saturday mornings to assist the men with the Prayer Breakfast, and for his peach cobblers greens, peas, etc. He was honored to receive his apron saying “U.G. #1 Cook Retired!”
 
Lee was old school, he believed in working and taking care of his family. He was a role model for being a husband, father, brother, family member and a mentor.
 
Lee was preceded in death by both parents Tempie and George; wife, Ora Lee; siblings Alberta, Lewis, Rubie, John, Will, Robert, Ira D.; daughter Mary Jeremiah; grandchildren Miles and Rojai.
 
Left to cherish his memory are children, Jessie Coleman, Georgia; Lisa Washington, Marlon (Candis Smith), Sonia Atkins all of Toledo; Keithe (Caroline) Atkins, Georgia; grandchildren: LaMonica, Eric, Angie, Stephen, Anthony, Jarrod, Jessica, Justin, Dominque, Carmic; 10 great grandchildren and many great, great grands; nieces, nephews, cousins; special friend Lula Richardson; special daughter Monica Riley; Union Grove Church family and many other friends.
