Obituary for Lavern Lynn Byrd

Lavern Lynn Byrd was born on February 11, 1960, to the union of Willie and Sarah T. (Jones) Byrd, in Toledo, Ohio. She heard the call of the Lord on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at St. Anne-Mercy Hospital and transitioned to her heavenly home.

Lavern gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Christian Community Church, along with her sister Christine, under the leadership of the late Reverend Clarence Smith, Sr. She later joined Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Floyd Smith, Jr. Under this ministry, Lavern became a member of the Intermediate Usher Board, where she served faithfully.

Lavern met the love of her life, Earl Taylor, as a young adult. The love they shared blossomed over 37 years. Through that union of love, they had one son, Earl L. Taylor, Jr.

Lavern received her education through Toledo Public Schools and was a graduate of Jesup W. Scott High School Class of 1978. "Once Bulldog, Always Bulldog." During her academic career, Lavern was active in many clubs and was a member of Scott High School Symphonic Choir, under the diction of Clarence Smith Jr. She continued her education and received a certificate in Computer Science and Library Technical Training. Lavern worked a few part-time jobs and ultimately became employed through Mercy Hospital School of Nursing (Mercy College) where she worked as a Library Clerk, until her health failed.

Lavern had several hobbies, which included her love for sports. Primarily supporting her favorite football team, the Michigan Wolverines as well has her favorite NBA team, the Utah Jazz and Carl ‘The Mailman” Malone. She also enjoyed traveling with her church, family, and friends which included places such as Ireland, Washington D.C., and various destinations via cruises. Another major enjoyment of Lavern’s included bowling.
Lavern was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Sarah Byrd, her Godmother Willie King, her sister Correan Baker, and the love of her life, Earl Sr.

Lavern leaves to cherish her memory her son Earl Taylor, Jr. of Toledo, Ohio. Her granddaughters Dashae Lynn, and Delaysha Seu Taylor, along with Kizzy Williams the mother of her granddaughters of Toledo, Ohio. Her sisters Shirley A. Taylor (David deceased) and Christine Williams (Willie deceased) of Toledo, Ohio. Her brother Jerome (Jeanette) Byrd of Toledo, Ohio. Her uncles Sim Byrd, and Douglas Williams of Toledo, Ohio. Her aunts Corrine Davis of Toledo, Ohio and Roberta Daniels Providence, Rhode Island. She also close friends Robbie Tucker and Robin Burkes of Toledo, Ohio. Lavern leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers, and friends.

Lavern will always be remembered for saying, “Stick together” and “later, later, later." We will see you on the other side
