Obituary for Kelvin Lenord Lawrence

Kelvin L. Lawrence suddenly transitioned from this life on Sunday December 6, 2020. Kelvin was born on June 23, 1963 to the union of James and Mary Lawrence in Toledo, Ohio. Kelvin was employed with American Steel Treating for 29 years until disability earlier this year.

Kelvin accepted Christ at an early age and was a very hard worker with a remarkable work ethic. He was a 1981 graduate of DeVilbiss High School and pursued undergraduate work at The University of Toledo. Kelvin enjoyed watching sports with his father and was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Detroit Pistons, and the Detroit Tigers.

Kelvin enjoyed socializing with family and friends. He could be somewhat of a jokester and enjoyed impersonating celebrities for laughs. One of the most memorable funny moments was for one of his son’s early birthday parties when Kelvin dressed up in a Barny the Dinosaur costumes in more than 80-degree heat – but the children were elated! That was the kind of father he was. He was very faithful to the youth in his family and of their activities. He was the biggest fan, however, of his own son, Kelvin Lawrence II. He supported all of his son’s endeavors.

He was a YMCA basketball coach for his son’s team and a volunteer parent for the after-school program with chess and bowling. Kelvin was an outstanding father who enjoyed family, food, and fun.

Kelvin was preceded in death by his Mother-in-law Nancy T. Barry.

Kelvin is survived by his mother and father; wife Laura Lawrence, son Kelvin Lawrence, II.; brothers Tim (Tina) Lawrence; Victor (Lisa) Lawrence; Myron Lawrence; sisters Tina Quinn; Tanya Prater; special Aunt Ann Hubbard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving family and friends.
