Obituary for Janice Strahan

On Thursday, December 19, 2019, the angels came and quietly escorted Janice Strahan to her Heavenly Home. Janice was born to Henry and Mary Strahan on January 24, 1958 at Mercy Hospital in Toledo, Ohio.

Janice loved the Lord and committed her life to Him as a teenager when she was baptized and accepted Him as her personal Savior. She graduated from Scott High School in 1976. She received her Nurse Aide certification from Scott High.

Janice’s first job was at Smith’s Confectionery which was owned by her uncle and aunt. She worked at Ashland Food Center and Frostbite. Later she began keeping records for her father, Homer’s construction business and caring for all of the babies born into the family.

Janice loved spending time with her family; especially her children and granddaughter. She enjoyed shopping at Shipshewana and Eastern Market in Detroit. She also liked going to the Casino to eat at the buffet and try her luck on the machines. Janice was an inspiration to others as she always had kind and comforting words for them. Her favorite little personal treats were Pepsi and Juicy Fruit gum.

Janice was preceded in death by her fathers, Henry Strahan, Sr., and Homer Williams, Jr. “Daddy” and a special uncle, Willie Smith.

She is lovingly survived by her children, John L. Lanford II “Man” and Jessica Lynette Strahan “Sugar Mama”; granddaughter, Jhasmere Lanford and her granddog, Blue; siblings: Jewel Strahan, Henry Jr. “Butch” (Earnesteen) Strahan, Denise and Shirlyn Strahan, Rozalyn (William) Wilson, Justina Williams and Charles (Sharonda) Stimmage; bonus siblings: Gary, Shirley, Sheila, Indiola, Anna Jean, Homer III, Victor and Denise Williams; special aunt, Willie Mae Smith “Mae Mae”; Godsisters: Leslye Colbert- Jones “Bunny”, Deborah Stewart “Debbie” and Camille (Mark) Lockett; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
