Obituary for James Manuel

James Manuel was born September 10, 1946, to William and Gloria Manuel. He was the oldest of their four children. James departed his earthly life on February 22, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital in Toledo, Ohio.

James attended Morgan and Washburn Elementary, St. Joseph Catholic School, while there he accepted Christ at a young age. He then went on to Bloom Jr. High School, and attended Taft Sr. High School, where he graduated.

In 1965 he attended the University of Cincinnati. While there, he was called to serve his country, where he fought in the Vietnam War. He came home with honors A Spec. V. Upon coming home, James returned to the University of Cincinnati where he graduated with his Bachelors Degree (E.G. BA AB BS). After receiving his degree, He and Yvonne, the love of his life, got married on June 11, 1977. They shared 44 years of love and happiness, til death did they part.

James's first job was at the Hostess Bakery, going to work for Shillitos, Owen's Corning, then for the U.S. Government, where he retired to be home with his wife.

James was raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason in Amazon Lodge #4 Prince Hall Free & Accepted Masons in June of1995. Brother Manuel was elected to serve as the Worshipful Master of Amazon Lodge in 2001. Brother Manuel continued his Masonic journey by becoming a member of the many orders of Masonry. Brother Manuel's masonic affiliations led him to join the York Rite orders of Free Masonry. Brother Manuel joined Maumee Chapter #6 Royal Arch Masons where he was elected and served as Excellent High Priest, Zabud Council #2 Royal and Select Masters, where he was elected and served as Illustrious Thrice Master, and St. John's Commandry #5 Knights Templar, where he was elected and served as Rite Eminent Commander. Through his work on the York Rite side of Masonry he was given the rights of becoming a member of Alpha Priory #1 Knight York Cross of Honor. Through his continual work in the Knights Templar he was awarded the honor of being made an Honorary Past Rite Eminent Grand Commander of Knights Templar State of Ohio and it's jurisdictions. James also pursued his degrees in Scottish Rite Masonry and was advanced to the grade of a Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret and made a member of St. Matthew's Consistory #24 Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Prince Hall Affiliation. James was elected and served as Illustrious Commander and Chief of St. Matthew's Consistory and eventually elevated to the last and final degree of 33° and given the title of Grand Inspector General.

James is preceded in death by his mother and father.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Yvonne Manuel, of Toledo, Ohio; brother, Elmer W. Manuel, of Topeka, Kansas; sisters, Deborah F. McGhee and Gloria L. Roper, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother-in-law, three sisters-in-law, along with a host of nieces, and nephews.
