Obituary for James Lightner Sr.

James David Lightner, Sr., was born, August 27, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Herman L. and Orazzie Lightner.

James moved to Swanton at a early age with his parents and siblings. James attended Swanton High School, where in his spare time, he caddied and learned how to play golf at Glen Gary Country Club.

James met the love of his life, Jacqueline Garner, in 1963. They married and their union produced four beautiful children.

James served his country in the United States Army, from 1969-1973, where he was stationed in Hamburg, Germany, and received an honorable discharge.

His passion and joy was playing gulf. As a semi professional player, James won several gulf tournaments in the United States Midwest and Canada.

After a 30 year career span, James worked for Dolar Jarvis; Ford Motor Company and later retired from the Holiday Inn.

During the holiday season, James enjoyed volunteering for the Salvation Army, ringing the Kettle Bell, where he also enjoyed putting smiles on the thousands of people he met over the years.

James is survived by his sons, David I. (Danielle), of Columbus, Ohio, James (Mindy) of Sylvania, Ohio and John, of Toledo, Ohio; daughters, Leesa and Tonia (Gerald), and Jamie, all of Toledo, Ohio
brother, Joseph M. of Toledo, Ohio; sisters, Berniece of Peoria, Illinois, Brinnie (Charles), Annie (Ed), both of Toledo, Ohio; grandchildren, David, II, Rason, Kennedy, Delyna, Kaylor, Miah, DuJuan, Samera, Amir, Julian and Jeremy; great grandchildren, Raniah, Nala, Jamari, Reggie, Nevaeh, Janee, Blake, King, Keynon and Kaynon, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks, gratitude and appreciation to US Renal Care and Outterbein Perrysburg for their outstanding care and treatment of our father.
