Obituary for Irma D. Thomas

Irma D. Thomas was born on January 6, 1928 in Mobile, Alabama to the union of Thomas and Mary Moffett, Sr. On Christmas day, Friday, December 25, 2020, our most precious gift given to us by God, returned home to Him.

Irma graduated high school and attended nursing school in Alabama, however it was decided that nursing was not her calling so she eventually moved north to Mansfield, OH to seek new opportunities. It was there that she met and married Ernest Thomas, Sr. and started a family. She and Ernest moved to Toledo, Ohio in 1952. While living in Toledo she joined the Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of G.J. Johnson. She sang in the Sharon Chorus while there and met lifelong friends that have become “family”. Many years later under the leadership of Bishop Duane Tisdale she joined the Ideal Workers Ministry and was installed on the Mother’s Board.

She worked as a seamstress at Crowne Cleaners before taking a position as a press operator at the University of Toledo in the Print Shop. She was recognized for her outstanding work ethic and was eventually promoted to Assistant Manager. She remained in that position for quite some time. In 1992, she decided to retire after twenty five years of service. She loved traveling and visited numerous destinations with Bathsheba Chapter 12, OES and the Ideal Workers Ministry of Friendship. She also found joy in crocheting items for family and friends.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, son Daniel, son in law, three daughters in law, and one grandson. She leaves to cherish her memories sons, Ernest Jr. and Bruce Thomas Sr., daughters, Patricia Thomas-Burt and Kimberly Thomas; sister, Marjorie Bolar, sister in law, Phyllis Moffett; grandchildren, Dawn Thomas-King, Cheryl Ivory, Robert Brown, Kesha Thomas-King, Aaron, Rhonda, and Ronald Hayes, Tristan Burt, Taylor Corggens, Arhmahn, Sean, Brandon, Tamarra, Kierre, Julian, Danee, and Devan Thomas, twenty two great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends.
