Obituary for Ida Mae Carter

Ida Mae Carter affectionally known as, "Mae" and "Gramps" made her peaceful transition from earth to heaven on Friday, October 2, 2009, at home surrounded by her family and friends.

Mae and her twin sister (Lela) were born on May 22, 1934, in Marianna, Arkansas to McKinley, Sr. and Eudora Palmer.

Mae was united in Holy matimony on January 23, 1956, to Arvee Carter, Sr. She was briefly employed with Toledo Head Start and volunteered for the East Toledo Family Center on Vinyl St. In support of her children, her neighborhood and the Navarre Colts Football Team, on any given day, Gramps could be found carpooling the team to and from games and practices. She was known for her cooking and baking and was famous for her "teacake cpploes" cales amd [oes. Mother Carter was a faithful member of the Paradise Baptist Church where she served dutifully as a church mother, trustee, Sunday school superintendent, as well as receiving the "Mother of Year" award. With her peaceful and gentle spirit, Mae easily befriended all that came into her presence.

She was preceded in death by both parents, McKinley, Sr. and Eudora Palmer, son, Deacon Harvey Carter, daughters, Edna Carter and Rebbie Taylor, five grandchildren, KayInna Carter, Torrence Hackett, LaMont Carter, LaMar and Kevin Moore, two great grandchildren, Datwane Moore, Kalynna Carter, two brothers, Roosevelt (Buddy) and McKinley (Sweet) Palmer.

Mae is survived by her husband of 52 years, Arvee Carter Sr. Daughters, Frances, Sylvia, Brenda, Precious, Joyce ( Anthony) Maggie, Murlene, and Arlene. Sons, Edward ( Gloria), Calvin, DeMarco (Shirley), Clarence, Arvee Jr., Quincey, Ricky, and James and a host grand, great grand and great, great grand children, relatives and friends.

Services are 11:00 a.m., Saturday at Indiana Baptist Church; wake service will be Friday, 6:00 p.m.—8:00 p.m. at The House of Day Funeral Home.
