Obituary for Essie Mae Darnell

Essie Mae Young Darnell, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on June 3, 2021 at Mercy Health St. Anne’s Hospital, with her family by her side. Essie was born on July 8, 1930 to Hattie and King David Young, in Guntown, Mississippi. She met and married the love of her life Louis A. Darnell on January 23, 1949, and to this union five children were born.

She was a homemaker for many years, later on life she worked as an Occupational Nurse retiring in 1998.
She loved and cherished her Parkwood Church where she served on the Usher Board, Deaconess, sang in the choir and worked in the kitchen, she loved reading her Bible daily before retiring for the night.
She was a proud Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and more recently a great-great grandmother. She touched the lives of each of the four generations that came from her, she will truly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sons, granddaughter, 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
Essie leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter Karen Darnell and son David (Crystal) Darnell, sister; Pearlean Draugham, sister-in-law; Mable Young and a host of Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, goddaughter Michelle Washington. Special cousin Hattie Barnes, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and her Parkwood Church family.
