Obituary for Elwood Thomas Bernard Jr.

Elwood Thomas Bernard Jr., affectionately known as “Brother”, was born on October 28, 1937 in Toledo, Ohio to the union of Elwood and Edna Mae Bernard. He departed this life peacefully on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at 83 years of age.
Brother attended Jesup W. Scott High school and decided as a young teenager that he wanted to join the United States Air Force. After serving his country he returned to Toledo, Ohio where he was gainfully employed by Dolehlar-Jarvis Company for approximately twenty-five years until the manufacturing plant permanently closed their door in 1998.
He was a caring and very supportive Brother, Uncle, Father and Granddaddy who loved all of his family and cherished all the time he could spend with his family and friends. He was most adored by his granddaughters, whom he always (till the end) affectionately referred to as his “Boys”, that was his term of endearment. He will be most remembered for his laugh and fun-loving personality who enjoyed listening to the tunes of some “Down home Blues” on any given day. Last but not least his favorite pastime was to walk to the corner store and buy his scratch-off which was the highlight of his day.
Brother was preceded in death by his loving parents Edna Mae and Elwood Bernard Sr.; brother, Melvin Bernard; nephew, Dorian Smith Sr.
To cherish his memory, he leaves children: Sons, Junest (Joyce Tucker) Hairston Sr., Macky (Amy) Bernard Sr., Kelly (Candi) Bernard Sr., Casey “Binky” Bernard; Rodney Badgett of Columbus, Oh.; Daughter, Demetria Bernard; Sister, Marliene Smith; Brother, Michael Branaugh of Indianapolis, In.; Grandchildren, Jamila Clark; Jacklyn (Eric) Brandt, Lynette Hairston, Leslie Hairston and Lydia Hairston all of Clarksville Tn.; Junest Hairston Jr.; Macky Bernard Jr.; Sheala Bernard, Shynell Bernard and Kelly Bernard Jr.; Simone Bernard, Caleb Bernard and Casey Bernard; Shamicka Sutton and Rodshode Sutton.; twenty great-grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends.
And a special thanks to the Nurses and Doctors of ProMedica Toledo Hospital for their wonderful care of our beloved Brother, Father, and Granddaddy.
