Dorothy Jean “Dot” Hill (nee Hamilton), 77, departed from her earthly home to the eternal resting place the Lord prepared for her on October 28, 2020 in Toledo, Ohio. Dot had a peaceful transition after courageously battling a debilitating, long-term illness. As scripture records, Dot “fought a good fight, finished her course, kept the faith and secured her crown of righteousness which the Lord had laid up for her.”
Dot was born to the union of Robert Hamilton and Zeola Grace-Hamilton on December 11, 1942 in Georgiana, Alabama. She and her seven siblings were reared in Alabama.
Dot was preceded in death by Lonnie Lee Hill, her loving husband of 57 years; parents Robert and Zeola Hamilton; daughter, Tanya Marie Hill; brother, Ulysses “Brut” Hamilton; sisters Ida “Ikie” McCaskill and Viola “Vi” Washington.
Dot was a faithful member of Mt. Pilgrim MB Church in Toledo, Ohio. For nearly 60 years, until her health began failing, Dot served that ministry through her time, tithes, and talents. She loved her church family. Dot was a greeter at Mt. Pilgrim for many years.
Everyone who know Dot loved her. She had an arresting beauty (by anybody's standards, Dot was fine! And fly!) with an equally adorable personality. Dot had an infectious smile and an uncontrollable laugh. Dot had a side-splitting laugh that made everybody else laugh.
Dot was a dedicated worker. She was employed by Chrysler Jeep retiring in 2002 after 30+ years of service. She was no stranger to hard work. Dot worked hard but she also played hard! One of Dot's favorite pastimes was playing Bid Whist and Spades. She and her ride or die card partners, Annie Hill and Barbara Hill, were serious about playing cards. Although they played for fun, make no mistake, they played to slay! Dot enjoyed traveling and shopping. Bowling, though, more than anything was her passion. She won numerous bowling tournaments and trophies.
Family gatherings were very important to Dot. She frequently entertained her siblings and their families as well as her husband's siblings and their families. Girlfriend could sho'nuff cook and everytime anyone came to their home Dot and Lonnie always had a big spread and no matter when anyone went there they were greeted with wonderful hospitality. She was a gracious hostess and always ensured people had a good time. Dot was very present in the lives of her family and friends.
Aside from her undying love for Lonnie Lee, Dot loved her children and grandchildren. She had unwavering support for her kids. Dot rode hard for Tanya, Tony, Val and Darrell. Even though she did not mince words, Dot was able to strike a wonderful balance of being firm but fair.
Dorothy's life will be forever cherished by her beloved family: Daughter, Valerie Hill, Toledo; Sons, Anthony (Sara) Hill, Toledo, and Darrell Hill, Toledo; Sisters, Pauline Ruffin, Buffalo, and Shirley Jackson, Cleveland; Brothers, Eddie Hamilton, Mocksville,NC, and Bobby Hamilton, Cleveland; Grandchildren Brandon, DJ, Trey, Isayah, Ainsley, Jayda, Isaiah and Elyjah; special sister in love Barbara Hill, special cousin Annie Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
