Damon Javon Gordon, known to his family & friends as "DJ", received his spot in line, to wait the coming of our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday February 6, 2023, at the young age of 17.
From the time DJ was born until the time he took his final breath, he was determined to do things "his way" and live life how he wanted to live it. He wanted to always shine as bright as the diamond jewelry he LOVED to wear. DJ had a smile that would brighten up ANY room and had an infectious laugh that made you want to laugh with him.
Starting at the age of 8, he became an avid reader which led him to earn various awards for reading way above his grade level. He later turned his attention to sports like his cousins Akienreh, Jala and Sissy but it was his two buddies/ cousins, Chico and KJ Johnson, who encouraged him to play basketball. Having finished the season, he turned to football, like his cousins, Elijah Williams, and Manny Johnson. During his very first tryout and following practices, he ended up attracting the attention of a few college scouts. DJ was acknowledged by his coaches as “having some of the best footwork they have seen by a newcomer to the sport with no formal training or coaching.” When he wasn’t at practice and during the off season, he developed a love for art and fashion. He started designing clothes and shoes not only for himself but his friends as well. Seeing how talented he was, his Granny Darlene, bought him his very first, brand new sewing machine. But not being one to sit still, he eventually would find his passion in making music, namely rap and started writing his own songs. He was able to perform at a few open mic nights, which gained him attention from a local producer. That eventually led to him being featured on his own flyer and selected to headline his own show in an Arizona local event, "The Hoodie Awards" in which he won second place out of 25 other rappers. He would end up releasing his first LP entitled, "Faith In Me". The LP featured 2 of his favorite tracks, "Learn My Lesson" and "Alicia".
DJ was preceded in death by his beloved great grandparents Herbert (Gladys) Glenn, Sr., and William Nathanial Floyd (Big Dad)
