Obituary for Bathea Octavius Hayward

Bathea Octavius Hayward nicknamed (Stick of Wood) departed this life on June 4, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the union of his parents, Lois Gaskin - Hayward and David Hayward on May 23, 1957 in Newport, Rhode Island. Bathea grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from John Hay high school. Bathea later moved to Toledo, Ohio where he began a Handyman business. Bathea also loved to travel. For some time Bathea lived in Oakland California before returning back to Toledo, Ohio. Bathea loved fishing and spending time with family and friends. Bathea fried the best catfish and he could cook pretty much anything, but he really loved cooking for his daughter, close family and friends. Bathea was a very hospitable person. You could always find Bay being the life of the party, which people pretty much always enjoyed the entertainment. To know Bay when he was having fun and talking his stuff he’d ALWAYS say, “41 years ago When I was in Damm Good shape!” (If you knew Bay then you pretty much know the rest of the statement). Bathea spent his spare time repairing and restoring his fleet wood Brougham Cadillac, of which he adored. Bathea loved helping his buddy Sam down at his car lot here and there. Bathea also loved spending his time with his friend that he calls, “My Rich Buddy” (Wayne). Bathea would not hesitate to help, or feed anyone. Bathea was truly a lively spirit whom will be truly missed. Now who's going to sing us all the “AL Green” songs?

Bathea was preceded in death by both parents, and his brother, Robert (Bobby) Cummings.

Bathea is survived by his loving, wife Vanessa Coleman, Son Bathea Piggee Jr., Son Lamarr Chancy, only daughter Tamea Hayward (Aaron). Brother, Clarence Jerry Hayward, 2 Sisters Rachel and Leah Hayward. Bathea is also survived by his former wife Sherrie McGinnis, and grandchildren Trevon, Marchell, Marc Jr., Alliyah, Baymira, and a host of nieces, nephews, favorite cousins and friends.

The Hayward family would like to take the time to Thank the House of day for their Services, Rev. Audrey Ramsey for her awesome assistance, Wayne & Yolanda Liggons, and also each and every one of you whom has showed love and support from near and afar! We love each and every one of you!
