Obituary for Steven Bennett

Steven Lewis Bennett was born on July 21, 1947 in Toledo, Ohio to Jessie and Lewis Bennett. Steve was the fourth of 10 children. He accepted Christ and was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church. He married Odette Scott on April 23, 2009, the love of his life.

At an early age Steve developed a strong work ethic, while attending elementary school. He was a paper boy who took his responsibilities seriously. He graduated form Scott High School in 1965 ("once a bulldog always a bulldog"). That same year he began his tour of duty in the United States Army. He served in Vietnam. Later, while still in the United States Army, he was stationed in Germany, which afforded him the opportunity to travel in Europe. He learned to ski and speak German during this time.

He was employed by the Lucas County Services Department as a social worker. On December 31, 2008 he retired from Chrysler Jeep after 30 years of service.

Steve loved celebrations with his family, siblings and friends. He and Odette took many trips to Iowa usually for the 4th of July, to visit and enjoy her family. He loved sports and truly enjoyed watching football games on Sundays with Odis. Steve loved telling stories about his childhood experiences. He had a quick wit, a great sense of humor and a mild disposition.

His parents Jessie and Lewis Bennett and his wife Odette preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories, three sons: Steven Bennett Jr., Odis Bennett, Jamall (KiaAiska) Scott, two daughters: Stephanie Holman, Brittney Mays; three brothers: Gilbert (Karen) Bennett, Bruce (Glynis) Bennett, Michael Bennett, six sisters: Katie (Baron) Robinson, Patricia (Carl) Butts, Mary Jane Walker, Pamela Bennett, Crystal (Gerald) Gist, Betty Bennett and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, cousins and special friends.
