Obituary for Vernon Sengail

Vernon Sengail who was affectionately known as "pop Eye", 73 of Fort Wayne Indiana, passed away on November 24, 2018 at Lewis Stokes Veterans Hospital.

Vernon was born on October 7, 1945 at Riverside Hospital in Toledo Ohio. Vernon was preceded by both parents Walter Sengail Jr. and Jean Jones-Sengail/Coogler. He attended Sherman Elementary and Jesup W. Scott High School. Vernon served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged from the United States Army. Vernon professed Christ at an early age.

Vernon worked various jobs. He loved his family. From watching sports, going shopping and the movies with James, by joking and arguing with Paul, telling Melvin what he should be doing, and calling his sister Verna and requesting her to cook one of his favorite dishes “black eye peas”! He often felt that he was his own shelf made chef, truthfully he cheated and called his cousin Artheldia for all her recipe’s and pretended it was his by design.

Vernon loved each one of his children Sheila, Yolanda and Delonte, along with each of their children. He often spoke about how proud he was of each of them. Vernon loved sitting and talking with his son in law, Earl and brother in law Verdis Sr.. He always admired how quickly time went as he watched his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins grow up into young adults and start their own families.

Vernon was preceded in death by his father, Walter Sengail Jr.; mother, Jean Jones-Sengail/Coogler; step-father, Rev. James Coogler, grandfather, Walter Sengail Sr.; grandmother, Annette Sengail; grandfather, Melvin Jones; grandmother, Pauline Jones; aunt, Ruth Ephraim; brother, Berry Sengail; niece, Ashley Coogler; and step-son, James Vernon Outlaw.

Vernon leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Sheila Armstrong (Keith) and Yolanda Grace (Earl); son, Delonte Harris; brothers, James Lee Coogler, Melvin Coogler, Paul Coogler; only sister, Verna Jean Chears (Verdis); step-mother, Betty Sengail; grandchildren, Jamal (Rebecca) Armstrong, Suncerai (Sheronda) Swan, Alandra Clark, and Maloni Armstrong; a very special first cousin, Artheldia Scott (Wade Durgin); special friend, Ricky Layson and Bernard (Summerville, IN); fiance, Emily Outlaw, along with nieces and nephews.
