Obituary for Linda Marie Slappy (Johnson)

Linda Marie Slappy (Johnson)
Linda Marie Johnson-Slappy, age 63, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Toledo Hospital.

Linda was born on July 23, 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Herbert Johnson and Florine Riley. She was the youngest and only girl of three brothers. Linda gave her life to the Lord at an early age, worshiping in Jerusalem Baptist Church. Linda was educated in the Toledo Public School System, having attended Gunkel School, Whitney High School, and Owens Community College. There she obtained her Associates Degree in Applied Science and her nursing license. She began working with Toledo Hospital in 1971 as a candy striper. Linda was an exceptional nurse, having worked at The University of Michigan on the IV team, Pediatrics for 10 years and as an Emergency Room trauma nurse. Linda retired from Promedica with 43 years of service in June 2013, but continued her career with Arbors of Oregon as a charge nurse.

Linda had a passion and love for motorcycles and in her younger years rode bikes in her spare time for fun. Linda was known to everyone as "Mom" because no matter hpw you crossed paths with her she was mom to all that knew her. She opened her heart and her home to anyone who needed it. She loved family gatherings, cookouts and vacationing.

Linda leaves to cherish her memory her three children, James JOhnson, Tamara Carruthers and Angela Slappy; her brothers, Herbert Jr, Willie Riley and Melvin Johnson; 12 grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.

"To know her, was to love Her".

Don't cry for me
Don't grieve too long for now I'm free
I followed the path God set for me
I ran to Him when I heard the call
My parting left you such a void
Fill it with remembered joy
A friendship shared
A hug
A kiss
Ooh yes these things I too shall miss
Be not burdened with ties of sorrow
I wish you sunshine and joys of tomorrow
My life was full, I gave so much
My time my love a gentle touch
Perhaps my time seemed too brief
Don't lengthen now with undue grief
Lift your head and celebrate me
God needed me here
He set me free
