Obituary for Kareem Abdul Hampton Bey

Kareem Abdul Hampton-Bey (AKA Steve)
(11/15/49 – 12/14/17)
Steve was born in Toledo, Ohio to Andrew Hampton-Bey Sr. and Verlie Mae Jefferson. Steve was a military veteran and served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Steve graduated from R.E.T.S. Technical Institute with a degree in Electronics. Steve was always a hard worker holding several good jobs in the Toledo area retiring from the Post Office in 2012. Steve legally changed his name to Kareem Abdul Hampton-Bey in 2017. Steve leaves behind his sister Deborah Badour and brothers Michael Moore and John Johnson and a host of nieces and nephews including his special nephew Ian Leonard.
Our brother would like to let you know that his work here is done. He received a call from the Lord, a sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time. Job security is exactly 110 percent. His new mission takes him to a wonderful place where he will be socializing, dancing and reading to his heart’s content. Music, laughter and love are guaranteed. Food is delicious and you never gain an ounce. He left detailed instructions for his siblings and his nephew Ian (who he cared for like a son) to celebrate his mission here, which has now been completed. Low adherence to this instruction will not be tolerated.”

“We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from our brother during his 68 years, among them: Always be respectful to others; always help others when possible; siblings should never fight with each other; be mindful of the less fortunate and disabled. Also: To his younger brothers he said to be men and good men to make our mother proud.”
