Geoffrey (Jeff) Jones was born July 7, 1953 in Toledo, Ohio to Versie Mae Jones. He was the grandson of the thirteenth, thirty years tenured pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Rev. Z. L. Jones and Sis. Mamie Jones. After Geoffrey's mother's passing, he was cared for by his maternal grandparents, Rev. Z.L. Jones and and Sis. Mamie Jones. Immediately after their deaths, Helen Jones became Geoffrey's caregiver. She cared for him for 41 years until his demise on Monday, November 26, 2018.

Geoffrey united with Bethlehem Baptist Church in 1968 under the leadership of his grandfather, Rev. Z.L. Jones. His love for the Lord was evident to everyone who knew him. He loved Sunday worship services and would often become very emotional during the services. He would often respond to questions asked during the Spiritual Growth Convocations Class following worship. However, the most vivid expression of Geoffrey's love for God was expressed by his love for people. Several years ago, if you missed worship services a few times, and if he had your phone number, he would call to find out why you weren't at church.

Geoffrey was preceded in death by his mother, Versie Mae Jones Newson; grandparents, Rev. Z.L. Jones and Sis. Mamie Jones; brother, Lonnie B. Newson, Jr.; uncles, Zettie Jones, Jr., Jarvis Jones, Sr. and Alvin Jones, Sr., all of Toledo, Ohio.

He leaves to cherish his memory, brother, Keith (Charlene) Newson; sister, Eola Rochelle Moore; special aunt, Helen Jones; special cousin, Alvin Jones, Jr.; nieces, Teniesha Newson, Nichole (DeShone) Varnell of Kennesaw, GA, Alizia (Charles) McBride, Carmella Newson, Keyonna Newson; nephews, JoVon (Delores) Newson, Jr. Al Moore II, and Keith Newson, Jr; the Bethlehem Baptist Church Family, and a host of cousins and friends.
