Roger D. Carson, Jr., Funeral Director

 At Mt. Zion, he served in many capacities, from the Ushering Ministry to Youth Pastor to Director of Family Ministries. During his years at Mt. Zion he was privileged to be mentored by one the greatest soul-stirring preachers of our time, the late Dr. Sterling L. Jones.

Pastor Carson is a product of the Detroit Public Schools System, attending Charles F. Kettering High School. He also attended Wayne State University, University of Phoenix, and Destiny School of Ministry. He has a Bachelors in Business Administration from Westgate University. He also received his Bachelors in Religious Education from Union Baptist Seminary of Birmingham, Alabama (Detroit Extension) in 2015 followed by a Masters in 2017.

Pastor Carson is the former Pastor of the Historic Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Port Huron, Michigan and the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Detroit, Michigan. During both of these assignments, Pastor Carson obtained the skills needed for the future ministry God had in store for him.

On Tuesday, August 25, 2015, Pastor Carson was unanimously elected Senior Pastor of the Southern Missionary Baptist Church of Toledo, Ohio. Since becoming Pastor, Southern now has a Senior Saints Ministry, Chosen Generation Youth Ministry, Midweek Manifest (Bible Study), Shepherd Care Ministry, and so much more. In November 2021, Pastor Carson and the Southern Church family celebrated the Mortgage Burning and liquidation of all debt.

In June 2018, Pastor Carson became the President of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Toledo and Vicinity. Since becoming President, the Conference has become stronger in Worship, fellowship, and financial stability.  

In addition to his clergy related endeavors, in February 2022, Pastor Carson became a Licensed Funeral Director in the State of Ohio and serves at the House of Day Funeral Service, the Standard of Excellence where he is currently the Managing Director.
