Obituary for James Bernard Curl

Brother James Bernard Curl 64, passed away October 20th, 2018 at the Genesis Swanton Valley Center while under Hospice care. James was born in Toledo, Ohio on November 23rd, 1954 and served as a trustee and assistant minister at the Ridgewood Church of Christ in Toledo for a number of years. He worked at Parker Hannifin of Waterville as a supervisor for almost twenty years until his retirement last year. He attended Abilene Christian College in Abilene Texas and graduated from the University of Toledo.

James was a father, brother, uncle and friend to many. He had strong religious beliefs and spent numerous hours reading and studying. He was at peace with his life and reassured us that he was ok with where he was. He called us all individually to explain the disease he was about to fight. He was resilient through his journey and fought hard to the end.
James learned to fish at a very early age with his father and brothers. He loved telling fish stories, mostly about the one that got away……..”If you could have seen it”. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Govan and Mamie Curl.

He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters Kemi (Nevada) and Jenise (Toledo), one son James (Toledo), three brothers Steve (Doretha) of Columbus, Dale (Kathy) of Jacksonville Florida, Craig of Columbus, sisters Denise Smith and Joy (John) Taylor of Toledo, and a host of nephews, nieces and other family and friends.

The nurse told us you were gone. In that moment our hearts were shattered, we were lost. At first we didn’t know what to do until we realized you were no longer in pain. We held and comforted each other for a long time. Dad, brother, you will live on in our hearts forever. We love you James!
