Obituary for Lerline Y. Belcher

Lerline Y.  Belcher
Lerline Tisdale-Belcher was born on September 18, 1934. She transitioned to her heavenly home on July 26,2018 in Toledo, Ohio. Lerline was born in Marion, South Carolina to the union of her parents Viola and Roosevelt Tisdale whom preceded her in death. Lerline was formally married to Benny Belcher and to that union one as born. She was preceded in death by her brothers Josh Tisdale, Willie Tisdale, Rooseveif'John Tisdale and sister Linda Martin Lerline's family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina where she attended Williston High School. She received a scholarship from Fayetteville State Teachers College where she received her B.A. in teaching and later on received her Master's Degree. She started teaching in Toledo, Ohio and for 30 years, she taught in the Toledo Public School system (TPS) at Gunckel Elementary School. Lerline loved her students and enjoyed teaching. She retired in 2004.

She was also a member of the IOTA PHI LAMBDA Sorority a sisterhood of business and professional women with a mission to further the dream of economic independence. Lerline is survived by her loving companion for over 40 years, Tommy Jones, and loving son, Mark R. Belcher: sister, Marva Underwood, brother Andy (Georgia) Tisdale, two grandchildren Ava Marie Belcher and Marlon Powell, and Goddaughter, Tyra Oldham Also surviving her are a host of nieces, nephews and friends, Rolunda Cartwright who referred to Lerline as "Mom" and special thanks to Candice Ensley and Tiffany Smith who were her in- home caregivers.

Family and Friends will be received on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at The House of Day Funeral Home, 2550 Nebraska Avenue, Toledo, Ohio (419-534-2550). Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 4,2018 at The House of Day Funeral Home, Wake services at 9:00 A.M. with funeral to follow. Officiant Elder Audrey Ransey. Burial, Woodlawn
