Obituary for James Columbus Williams IV

James Columbus Williams IV
James was born on March 1st 1978 to proud parents Della (Daniels) Williams and James Williams III. He
was a happy baby who loved to laugh and became the perfect sidekick to his sister Janae.

He was nicknamed Jay and lovingly called Jaybird at times. He was a thoughtful child with an easy smile; but he knew how to amp up the guilt by collapsing whenever he was scolded, told “no” or required to eat
something he didn't want. (No exaggeration; this kid would collapse into a heap on the floor)! With an early aptitude for rhythm, Jay was soon tapping on anything he could find. He was also an enthusiastic sports lover, playing baseball and basketball in middle school and, later, football in high school and college. And aside from organized sports, Jay was a “stand out” in a family of bowling fanatics! Golf soon became a favorite way to compete with his dad, brother, uncles, granddad and cousins (truly the most competitive introvert around). Jay graduated from St. Francis de Salle’s High School in 1996 and attended the University of Toledo.

Jay accepted Christ at a young age at the Tabernacle of Faith Church, where he was taught by his
grandfather, Pastor James Williams Jr. His father introduced him to bongos; Jay quickly advanced to
drums. It delighted the congregation to watch this young man playing at his father's side during
services. They also empathized with his mother because there was truly never a quiet moment in her
house after that. Jay's love for being a worship musician never ended. As an adult, he played for several
churches in the Toledo area, including Cedar Creek where he and his family later attended.

Jay's life was forever wonderfully changed on November 14, 1999. On a social media website, he
connected with a pretty fellow UT student, Jackie Graham. They met, fell in love and embarked upon a
new life together. They were married on September 30, 2005 and have been blessed with four precious
children. While Jay had much in his life to feel proud of, without question his greatest pride and joy was
his family! He and Jackie worked side by side maintaining a fun, nurturing home where their children
could excel. Jay wanted his children to attend excellent schools and to be given the best opportunities
possible, so his “Dad Hustle” was strong! Whatever sacrifice was required, Jay gave it his best. His
family was blessed with memories from trips to Florida, Thanksgivings with the Williams/Polk clan & the
Kentucky crew; fireworks in July, game nights, and private talks with Dad. Jay also felt blessed to be
baptized with his two oldest sons in 2013 and participating in the baptism of his two youngest children
in 2014 at Cedar Creek Church. Even with life's challenges, Jay remained at his core a loving man driven
to provide for his family; a man with a big heart, talent to share and a desire to please God.

Waiting to welcome Jay in Heaven are his mother Della Williams, father James Williams III, grandmother
Annie Ruth Oxner and grandfather James Williams Jr. Left to mourn his absence are his devoted wife,
Jackie; children James V, Justin, Jonathan and Jayda; grandmother Rosalyn Williams; sisters Janae
(Mylan) Welborn and Jamia Williams; brother Jordan Williams; stepmom Carletta Williams and many
aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who completely adore him.
