Obituary for Robert Blackman

Robert Blackman, AKA "Big Rob" and "Dead Eye", was born in New Madrid, Missouri to the union of Mildred and Norman Blackman on January 28, 1943. Mr. Blackman was 75 years of age when he was called home. He departed this life on April 30th, 2018, after a long battle with a terminal illness, in the presence of family at the Laurels of Toledo.
Robert accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Libourn East High School from 1957 to 1961, earning his Diploma in 1961. Mr. Blackman attended a year of college before serving his country. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in the military from 1962 to 1969. Robert was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving from 1968 to 1969. He earned the rank of Sergeant 1st class during his service. He was a classified carrier and traveled all over Vietnam jumping from planes to deliver classified material during the war. He earned the following medals, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was employed at the CETA government program from 1975 to 1982 where he served as a counselor. Robert loved watching old Westerns and his favorite reality show was “Young and the Restless”. He also served as an Umpire for softball and basketball games for many years upon his retirement. Robert was an avid sports fan and his favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. He was a handsome man with a wonderful sense of humor, which explains why he was a true ladies man.

Robert was preceded in death by his (father) Norman Blackman, (mother) Mildred Henderson, (Sisters) Shirley Ross and Norma Jean Wraggs and (brother) Ronald Blackman.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his (stepmother) Margaret Blackman, (brothers) Rodney, Randy, Ricky (Jarolyn) and Ramon (Lukesha) Blackman, all of Toledo, Ohio; (Sisters) Kathryn Tabron of Oak Lawn, Illinois; Jennifer and Lisa (Leon) Blackman and Safona Harris, all of Toledo, Ohio; His children Steven (Theresa) Scales of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Robert (Kimberly) Stubbins and Rhonda (Rodrick) Walters of Tampa Florida; Marietta Scales of South Bend, Indiana; Lashawna (Garland) Files, Cenithia Addie, Tynika Jones, Arkia Blackman, Travon Ramsey, all of Toledo, Ohio; and Teran Carter of Chicago, Illinois. He also leaves to cherish his memory, 28 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren, special Uncle Richard C. Jones Sr., special friends Johnny “Bishop” Sessions and Clifton Pittman and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
