Obituary for Ida Mae Barnett (Sanders)

Ida Mae Barnett (Sanders)
Ida (Sanders) Barnett was born June 4th, 1943 in Edwards, Mississippi to the Union of Nazareth Sr. and Rosie Sanders. Ida was the 4th of 13 siblings. Ida came to Toledo, Ohio in June of 1952 & attended Washington School on Palmwood Avenue and Sherman. After Sherman, she attended Scott High School. Ida met Leon during high school, which started a magical journey and they married April 5th, 1963 and remained married 54 years until his passing. To this union was born 3 children, twin sons, Leon Carlton Jr. and Deion Carlton and one daughter, Sabrina Renee. Ida was employed at the Toledo Zoo, The Craft House and retired from Acme Manufacturing. God allows things to grow until they're perfect. Ida didn't take as long.

There is no way to describe the love that exuded from God's masterpiece. Ida was as gentle as the summer breeze, as forgiving as a rainbow after a storm. A ray of sunshine, who brightens your day with a smile, a hug and a kiss that was full of sincerity and warmth. So much love bottled up in a small package. If she could speak to us today, here are words she would say, " Grieve if you will, remember not my fight for breath, remember not the strife. Please do not dwell upon my death, but CELEBRATE my LIFE."

Ida enjoyed spending time with her family and in-laws, who were more like her siblings. She loved to dress up and was truly a social butterfly. She loved playing cards with her sisters and friends. Ida liked to cook and entertain and was known for having cook outs and backyard barbecues, which attracted the masses. Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Barnett Sr., parents, Nazareth and Rosie Sanders, sister, Barbara and brothers Adolf, Moses and Willie Sanders.

Leaving to cherish her precious memories are her children, Leon (Chrystal) Barnett Jr., Deion (Nina) Barnett Sr. and Sabrina (Norman Jr.) Barnett Jamison, brothers: Nazereth Jr., Amos (Bonita). Sisters: Gladys Armstrong, Dolores Law, Betty Landry, Josie Patterson, Debran (Earl) Brown and LaVern (Judge) Rhodes, 23 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren. Sister-in-law's: Anita Sanders, Lorraine Hayes, Ann Hall, Marlina Hinton-Carter and Eva (Pete) Lyle Jr. Brother-in-law, James Snodgrass Sr. Special friends: Johnny Mae Rayford, Jennifer Sims Slatton, Varie Brown and Kathy Butler. Special thanks to Ashley and Shontai Barnett. Words of appreciation to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Ohio Living.
