Our beloved mother and family matriarch, Verlee Rose Hood, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2018, at the Kingston Care Center of Sylvania. She was born October 17, 1929, in Oxford, MS, to Mr. & Mrs. (Edna Jackson) Booker T. Cradler.
Verlee worked at Rose Marie Nursing Home, Spencer Township Neighborhood Opportunity Center, Lucas County Child Support Enforcement Agency, and finally retiring from Lucas County Auto Title Bureau, in 1996. For many years, she served as President of the Spencer Township Township Fire Department Women's Auxiliary, Secretary of he Spencer Township Democratic Club, the community churches Celestial Choir, and Love Missionary Baptist Senior Choir. She began with the church, originally named Love Baptist Church, in August 1955, where she attended over 60 years until her health began to fail, and served as its 1st church clerk for many years. Until she could, she enjoyed attending the Spencer Township Senior Nutrition Program, and playing domino's and socializing with her many friends.
"Moms" was preceded in death by her parents; son, Myron "Mondell" Hood; daughter, Karen "KK" Porter; great grandson, Jamal Porter; great granddaughter, Jasmine Thomas; sister, Yvonne Cradler; brother, Maurice Cradler; former husband, Willie J. Hood, Sr.
Surviving to continue her legacy are children; Vanessa (Donald) Lynn, Willie, Jr. (Rene), Michael, and Galen Hood, along with 20 plus grandchildren, 40 plus great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren, siblings, Samuel Rowell, Jr., Jacksonville, FL; Regina (Gavin) Johnson, Anthony Cradler, Larry Cradler, all of Memphis, TN, Jerome (Katie) Cradler, and Wanda Phillips, both of Long Beach, CA; dear childhood and lifelong friends, Betty Adams, Daisy Davis, Barbara Lloyd-Stevenson, Louise James and Nancy Snell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at 11:00 am, preceded by a 10:00 am Wake, at Love Missionary Baptist Church, 10050 Angola Rd., Swanton, Ohio 43558.
