Charles Conley Zeigler, Sr, affectionately called “Pops” was born on July 18, 1926, in Ferndale/ Garrison, West Virginia to the union of Jesse Ben Zeigler and Mary Lottie Smith. Ten children were born to this union. The Zeigler family relocated to Stoneville, North Carolina and he attended Stoneville Elementary Junior High School. His parents then moved their family to Columbus, Ohio. From childhood throughout his adult life he was always closely bonded with his sisters and brothers.

Charles was an honorable United States Navy Veteran of World War II. He joined the Naval Academy on October 4, 1944, ranked as Ship Steward Mate 2nd Class Petty Officer. He during World War II earning the American Area Service Medal and Victory Medal. Upon his discharge on July 3, 1946, he returned to Columbus, Ohio and began employment with Federal Glass Company.

Charles was joined in holy matrimony to Charlotte B. Mills in March 1951, they were blessed with three sons and three daughters; Pamela, Charles, Jr. (Weenie), Michael,
Rama (Fuggie), Darnita (Nita Bea) and Emice. “Nehi” as Charlotte was nicknamed was the love of his life, she was called home on March 20, 2005. They were married for 54 years at time of her passing. “Pops” remained faithful and continued to support, affirm and sustain his love for his “Nehi” until his transition into eternal life on Thursday, July 12, 2018, surrounded by his beloved children. He is preceded in death by the love of his life, Charlotte B. Zeigler; his parents; Jesse and Lottie Zeigler; daughter Pamela Flowers; son, Rama D. Zeigler; sisters Marie Adkins, Nancy Stidoms, and Anna Price and brothers Herman Zeigler, Jesse Zeigler and Herbert Ziglar and his twin brother Carlton who passed at birth.

He leaves a rich heritage and heavenly legacy to his beloved family with includes his children Charles C. Ziegler, Jr. (Rita), Michael R. Zeigler (Reba), Darnita J. Rogers (Calvin), Emice D. Rickman (George, Sr.); his grandchildren and prized possessions: Darnell (Fatman), Nikeeta (Keeta Bea), Charles, III (Phatty), Robert, Michael Jr.(Mikey), Pamela (Pammie), Joy, Tia (Tia Bug) , Meggan, Oasha, and George Jr (Lil Georgie); brother, John Zeigler of North Chicago, Illinois; sister Lula Price (James) of Columbus, Ohio; brother-in-law Apostle John W. Mills (Fannie); 18 great-grandchildren: 5 great-great grandchildren;1 great-great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends and “Pops” to many.

Services for “Pops” will be held Monday, July 23rd. Family and friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Parkwood Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2200 Parkwood Avenue (corner of Bancroft and Parkwood Avenues) in Toledo, Ohio. Funeral arrangements entrusted to House of Day Funeral Home. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery, 1502 W. Central Avenue with the Repast immediately following at Charlotte’s Hall, 5319 West Bancroft Street in Toledo.
