Obituary for Gloria Denise Bumpus

Gloria Denise Bumpus 60, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Arbors of Sylvania, after a long battle with Huntington’s Disease.

Gloria was the oldest of four children, born May 12, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, to her Father Arga Buckhalter Sr and Mother Mary Lou Nichols-Buckhalter. In the early 1960’s, her parents relocated to Los Angeles, California, where Gloria was raised with her other siblings.

Gloria was a part of The Black Student Union at Abraham Lincoln High School, where she earned her Diploma graduating in 1974. After High School she worked as a librarian where she met and later married John O. Bumpus. The couple then relocated in the mid 1980’s to Toledo, OH. Gloria continued her education, earning her Associates Degree in Business Management at Davis College in 1992. She worked for various employers, including Heartland Healthcare Services where she enjoyed taking care of people, until she herself needed to be taken care of when her disease began to progress. Gloria loved to read, was a very competitive spades player, a great dancer, and the life of any party.

Gloria was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, her sister Kimberly Daniels, brother Cody “Prince” Hoosier, and special cousin Keith Floyd.

Left to cherish her memory are her 5 children, Sons, Bruce Burton Jr, Adam (Meredith) Bumpus, Chester Franklin Jr. daughters, Tiffany (Miguel) Campbell, and Sherri (Shawn) Carter. Four grandsons Durron Burton, John Carter, Shawn Carter Jr, Zyan Campbell and her only grand-daughter Anaya Sullivan. She is also survived by her Brother Arga “Rick” Buckhalter Jr. and a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
