Mr. Richard J. McFarland,affectionately known as Dickie, 69, fell asleep in death on Friday, March 24, 2017, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, surrounded by his loving family. Dickie was born, January 4, 1948, to the union of Marcellus McFarland and Delores (Jackson) McFarland. He was a 1966 graduate of the former Spencer-Sharples High School in Swanton, Ohio, and was a lifelong resident of Holland, Ohio. Dickie started a 31 year truck driving career first at O'Neal Steel, in Toledo, Ohio, where he spent 20 years. The nest 11 years he spent driving as a Feeder Driver for UPS, retiring in 2010.

Dickie enjoyed a long happy relationship with his wife and best friend, Annie, traveling and relaxing at home, listening to music and watching sports. He was a die-hard Detroit Lions fan. He was known for his great sense of humor, his sage advice, and always upbeat and positive attitude. His love of family and friends was noted in one of his favorite sayings:"I would rather be loved than rich". Dickie was a truly caring person, always putting others before himself. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marcellus McFarland and brother Jack Edward McFarland.

Dickie is survived by his loving wife, Annie; mother, Delores McFarland; 2 sons, Andre McFarland and Leslie McFarland; 3 daughters, Andrea (Darrell) Rogers, Towyanna "Mia" McFarland and Tamron (Cedrick) Smith; 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Patsy (James) Turner, of Stockton, CA, Bobbie Beasley, Janet Sallee, both of Toledo, Ohio, and Marlene (Rodney) Toms, of Columbus, Ohio; brother, James Brown; 2 aunts, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

"And I have hope toward God...that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the un righteous," Acts 24:15

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017, from 4:00 - 6:00pm, at the House of Day Funeral Service Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 3, 2017, at 12:00 noon, preceded by an 11:00am Wake, at the House of Day Funeral Service
