The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Ruthie Young can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Obituary for Ruthie Young (Battle)

Ruthie Young (Battle)
Ruthie Mae was born on September 2, 1928 in Drew, Mississippi. She was the second of three children born to the union of Leon and Hattie Mae Battle. She met and married John C. Young Sr. on April 3, 1948. To their union was born four children. They moved to Toledo, OH in 1953 where they settled and raised their family.

Ruthie Mae (Ruth) loved to fish, and make quilts. She was best known for her deliciously, finger-licking, sweet potato pies. She was an incredibly friendly person with a beautiful smile, and warm personality. She was always quick to serve others, even to the point of neglecting her own needs. She had a love for people in general. Ruth was a loving and devoted wife to her husband John, father to her children and truly loving to her family and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband John, both parents, her daughter Linda, sons Ollie and Robert, grandson James and granddaughter Sheree.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving sons Jimmy Lee Battle, John Jr. (Juanita) Young, and her loving and deeply devoted daughter “two peas in a pod, best friend” daughter, Shirley (Timothy) Bunts-Foster, Eight grandchildren, John Young III (Titiana), Linda Walton, Tasha (Clifford) Wellington, Deon(Crystal) Bunts, David (Crystal) Bunts, Nicole (Lionel) Brock, Shorrese Potete, Jimar Battle, twenty-one great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.
