Obituary for Henry Newson Sr. R

Bishop Henry "Pop" Newson, Sr., was born in Ruleville, Mississippi, October 16, 1935, to the union of Horse and Viola Newson, both preceded him death. He departed this life on November 8, 2013, at the Laurels of Toledo, at the age of 78. Bishop Newson confessed Christ at an early age, and began working in the church. God then called him into the ministry. Bishop pastored Second Baptist Church of Holland, Ohio, Antioch Baptist, Rt 295, and St. Luke Baptist, Toledo, Ohio. Bishop sang with his wife, Missionary Doris Newson, for many years. He also sang with the Sunset Travelers, Pilgrim Wonders, The Phillip Temple Harmonizers, and the Newson Family, which he organized. He will be best remembered throughout the City and Country for his singing, teaching, and preaching. He was preceded in death by parents, 2 sisters, Toni Ellis and Serrenda Whickum Bishop Newson leaves to cherish his memory; daughter, Barbara Howard; sons, Henry, Jr. (Natalyn), Hubert (Chris), Jessie (Angie), Anthony (Tina), James (Antonnette) and Joshua Newson, 24 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild; 3 loving nieces, 4 nephews, a host of cousins, loving friends, and his church family. Services will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 11:00am, wake at 10:00am at St. Stephens C.O.G.I.C., 5509 Dorr St. Visitation will be Friday, from 6:00pm-8:00pm at St. Stephens C.OG.I.C.
