Obituary for Hattie Reed

Service will be held at Friendship Baptist Church at 11:00 am, proceeded by wake at 10:00 am. Visitation Tuesday from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the House of Day Chapel. Hattie W. Reed, 100, of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on April 13, 2016. She was born on March 27, 1916 to the late Sellers and Mary Barrow in Chambers County, Alabama. Hattie was an avid reader and was a strong believer all children should be educated. Her other interests were gardening, traveling, shopping, cooking and baking; but she was known for her yeast bread rolls. Hattie was a faithful member of her church and participated in many church activities, but she was most proud to be a Mother in her church. Hattie cherishes her family. She was a generous and cheerful giver to anyone in need and worked until she became stricken with a stroke. Hattie is preceded in death by husband, John Lee, son, Sellers; sisters, Mary Peters, Charlene Johnson and Olivia Mitchell, and brothers, Cecil Glaze and Sellers Barrow. Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughter, Mary Williams; grandchildren, Sandra (Kevin) Gill, Durand (Marita) Williams; great-grandchildren, Renee (Jamil) Rogers, Kenneth Rivers, Thomas, Cherrelle, Justine, Dustin, Ty and Jacob; great-great grandchildren, Jalen, Andre, Chloe and Chloe-Mya, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at the House of Day Funeral Home, 2550 Nebraska Ave., Toledo, Ohio, 43607 on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, 4-6 p.m. Funeral services on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, with a 10 a.m. Wake followed by the Home going Service at 11 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, 5301 Nebraska Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43615. Bishop Duane C. Tisdale will be the officiant. The interment is at the Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
